Isn’t Christianity just a crutch for the weak?
This question is used as an insult, as if only weak minded people would ever consider Christ or Christianity.
It ignores something. Is the teaching of the Bible about God, man and sin, Christ and the Cross, conversion and salvation true? If it is it changes everything.
If I break a leg, I would not mind using a crutch. If I am sick, I do not mind going to a doctor. As I have sinned and guilt is a reality, I need someone who can forgive me. If that ‘crutch’ is the Lord Jesus, who has proved clearly that for centuries He is able to make thieves……honest; drunkards …….sober; immoral people ….pure; blasphemers……kind in their talk; the weak ….strong; and evil and godless people … good and godly; then surely He is worth resting on and receiving the peace, pardon and purpose which He offers!
He said, “Come to me, all you who are weak and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
It would be very foolish for a man who needed a crutch to stay housebound out of pride. Not admitting our need of help means we miss the saving help God offers us in Christ.
