Who made God?

Nobody expects a dog to buy and read a daily newspaper. This is not because a newspaper cannot be understood, but because it is beyond a dog’s understanding. Similarly, God is bigger than anything a mere human can fully comprehend. It is impossible to put God into a laboratory and carry out scientific examinations on Him.

God made men and women in His own image. The result is that we have the ability to love, think, reason, hate and to enjoy fellowship. We were created by Him and must not fall into the trap of making God in our own image. We are finite, God is infinite; we are limited, but God is unlimited by time and space; we began and one day our bodies will die, but God has no beginning or end. He was not made by anyone or anything.

Our minds cannot grasp that, just as they cannot understand the fact that there are billions of stars in space, or millions of cells in our bodies. All that we know begins and ends, but God had no beginning and will have no end. The Bible says of God, ‘The King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see.’ (I Timothy 6:16). If we could fully understand and explain Him, He would not be God and we would not be human.

The temptation is to reduce Almighty God to terms we as humans can understand. This is the essence of idolatry. It is making God into our image, so that we have some control over Him. To give God a beginning is to create a being who is like us, but God the Creator is greater than we, the human beings He has created.

The Bible says, ‘From everlasting to everlasting, you are God’ ~ Psalm 90:2
