Why bother with God? I’m alright as I am!
Why should anyone be concerned about God? Most people feel they are OK as they are. Why bother with God?
Men and women were made physical beings having a body; social beings with the desire for company; intellectual beings with an ability to reason; emotional beings with a sense of feeling, and spiritual beings – so that we could have a living relationship with our Creator-God.
There are three basic reasons why each individual needs God:
First, all of us are guilty of wrong.
Sadly, humanity’s deliberate disobedience towards God has cut us off from Him. The Bible says, ‘Your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you.’ (Isaiah 59:2). God is absolutely pure and holy. Let’s be honest, we are not. However, satisfactory our lives may appear, we are not like the people we were meant to be.
Secondly, there is meaningless to life and death with God.
Like trying to drive a car when only three cylinders are working, we chug along. Without God, life and death are meaningless. We experience emptiness, but God’s desire is that we may enjoy a living, real relationship with Himself.
Thirdly, without God, we can never be ready to die.
Even if all appears well now, what happens when you die? I don’t know that I could enjoy a journey in an aeroplane, whatever luxuries were given me during the flight, if I knew that there was to be a crash landing at the end. How can I enjoy life if I do not know what will happen when I die? Yet God, through the Lord Jesus has come to this world with the express purpose of dying and rising from the dead, to provide a way for sin to be forgiven, and for people to be brought into a relationship with God which will last through life, death and eternity. Jesus said, ‘I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.’ (John 10:10)
Christian apologist Ravi Zacharias argues that: ‘Having killed God, the atheist is left with no reason for being, no morality to espouse, no meaning to life, and no hope beyond the grave’.
Perhaps God has begun to work in your life already and wants you to trust Him. Are you running away from God or will you receive Him?
