Aren’t churches just full of hypocrites?
Going to Church does not make a person a Christian. It is well known that lives of some churchgoers have proved to be a sham, and they have brought shame on themselves and the name of the Lord. It has always been like that.
Nevertheless, abuse of Christ does not mean that He is not real. Millions have found Him to be the precious Saviour who totally changes all who come to Him with sincerity and faith.
Outside a respectable Anglican Church in Yorkshire the vicar hung a banner saying, ‘Only sinners welcome here!’ It caused some offence, but he was right. Whether the sin is hypocrisy or some other wrong attitude or action, all need the Saviour and all are welcome to respond to Christ’s invitation to ‘come unto Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28)
Remember, if you find fault with those professing real Christian faith, they are only sinners who have found the Saviour whom we all need. As they continue in their Christian life, Christ will refine their character so that they will gradually become more and more the people He wants them to be.
Someone has said to those who say the church is full of hypocrites, “Don’t stay away from Church because there are so many hypocrites; there is always room for one more.”
Christ did not die on the cross to make men hypocrites and pretend. He died to make us turn from sin and become sincere. Jesus said, “the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:23-24
Come to know Christ as your Saviour and begin to worship God from a sincere heart.
