Who is Jesus Christ?
The Bible makes it very clear that there is only one God. This one God is in three persons – God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God clothed Himself in humanity in the person of Jesus Christ. God became man and dwelt among us. The Bible puts it this way:
‘For unto us a child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace’ (Isaiah 9:6).
‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.’ (John 1:1).
‘And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.’ (John 1:14).
Here is a story which actually happened on the evening of a school nativity play. Old folks and parents had gathered in the school hall. Everything was going well until the wise men appeared all dressed up. When the third one saw his parents in the audience, his mouth fell open and he forgot his words. He was overawed.
Slowly the boy knelt by the manger to present his gift and say his lines, but no words came. The teacher in the wings whispered, ‘Say something.’
No words came, ‘Say something,’ the teacher said in desperation.
‘Eeh, he’s just like his dad!’ the young actor said.
How right he was. The baby born in Bethlehem was the express image of His Father God. The Creator had become like us, His creation. God had become a man.
“God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed us to the word of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19)
Jesus came into the world to save His people from their sins. Because he cared He gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to the dumb, strength to the lame, cleansing to the leprous, life to the dead, food to the hungry, peace to the troubled, comfort to the grieving and forgiveness to the guilty.
He had come to die. In dying He was bearing in His own body the sin of the world. In rising from the dead He conquered the great conqueror, death. He came from God that He might bring us to God. Christ is not only the greatest human who ever lived, who gave to the world the greatest teaching ever given, but He is the Creator, stepping into the areas of human history to rescue men and women from sin and bring them back to God.
God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
(1 Timothy 3:16)
As the person of Jesus Christ has been attacked by various sects, here is a shortened list of some Bible references which give verses to demonstrate that Jesus is God manifest in the flesh.
Take a look at these other verses from the Bible:
Matthew 1:23; Mark 5:6-7; John 1:1,2,14; John 5:17,18,21-23; John 10:30-33; John 20:28; Acts 20:28; Romans 9:5; Philippians 2:6; 1 Timothy 3:16; Titus 2:13; Hebrews 1:8-10
